About

Hi,

My name is Kate, let me tell you a little about myself.........

Unlike most who have babies/children's clothing or accessories shops today I am not a new or young mum. I am a mother of three amazing adults and a 'granny' to 7 beautiful grand babies.

My mother was a tailoress during her early working years and embarked on the unenviable task of trying to teach me how to sew but being 10 years old I was more interested in climbing (and many times falling out of) trees than being cooped up indoor. Anyone who knew my mother knows that she was a persistent woman and by the time I reached the age of 13 I was making my own clothes. I have gone on to tailor men's suits, overcoats, make business shirts and wedding dresses and almost everything else. I have however discovered that I am useless at curtains, my sincerest apologies to my two beautiful daughters-in-law 😂

When my youngest son was 6 months old, like many of the young mums today, I needed a work from home income and the obvious choice for me was sewing. This led to my first children's wear business. I trudged around Melbourne to find warehouses that sold fabrics and then made myself busy designing and sewing. I would go to markets, sell through word of mouth and hold at home parties to sell my goodies. It was a long arduous task but the fun of being able to buy all of that wonderful fabric made it all worth while (I have been known to be a bit of a fabric hoarder)

Fast forward to today......I had a job that I wasn't enjoying and began looking for alternatives. I then started considering the feasibility of reinventing my children's clothing business. I swung between "yes, what a great idea" and "no don't be ridiculous". After hours spent researching I decided that by modifying what I had done in the past and concentrating mainly on accessories for babies and toddlers, I would go for it. So I broke out my old patterns and here we are. A lot has changed over the years (dare I say decades) to make it easier, the biggest being access to the internet for buying fabrics and being able to set up an online store. Will it work?? Who knows, but hopefully I'll have fun along the way and maybe some of you will come along with me for the ride.   💚Kate
